I have recently been looking on the internet for a great golfing gift for my dad and I really have realised just how great some of the items on the internet can be. After previously getting him one of those fancy electric golf trolleys I decided to get him a smaller gift but something that would make him or I laugh.  Here are some of my favourites that I have seen so far.

The exploding golf ball
This gift has got ot be personally put down on the tee by yourself so make sure you offer to caddy, it will be worth the boredom.Stand back when you put this ball on the tee for the golfer because as soon as its hit it will explode into white powder. This is without doubt the one I am going to purchase.

The smashing golf ball
This is a brilliant trick for when the golfer is away from the car playing a game. This comes with everything you need to make it look like a clumsey golfer has hit a ball through the front of anyones car. Brilliant!

The Potty Putter
This is a product he currently already has but thought it really deserved to be put down on the list. All you have to do with this one is put down the small green that comes in the pack, pick up the mini putter and golf balls and practice the game whilst doing your business. Brilliant for when you never thought you could practice the putting.

The ultimate golfers toilet roll.
Another toilet themed product this toilet roll is packed with golf quotes as well as cartoons to amuse any golf fan when their on the loo using their potty putter.

The wobbling golf ball.
This is the last item I saw that made me laugh. This is funny for any onlooker as the ball will never go straight when the golfer is trying to putt. This is awsome as you get to watch as the golfer misses and misses and gets ever so more annoyed in the process.

So charge up those golf batteries and get these great items up on the course for a laugh at the golfers expense!

Golf Balls were not always made the same way that they are today, as they have gone through many changes throughout the years. During the earliest part of the 17th century, they were actually made of goose feathers and cowhide. The cowhide was used as the outer hull and the feathers were used as the stuffing. The process used in making these “featherie” balls was long and somewhat difficult. Because of this, they were also quite expensive.

The next innovation in golf balls came in 1848, when the “guttie” ball was invented by Dr. Robert Adams. It was made from the sap of the Sapodilla tree. When heated the sap could be shaped and molded. It was noticed accidentally that an irregular ball flew better than a true spherical ball; therefore, they were intentionally made with discrepancies to make sure the flight of the balls would be true. Every golf club in the country converted to these balls very quickly as they were much cheaper and easier to make than the previous ones.

In the last century, golf balls were made with multiple layers, consisting of a liquid center, a rubber thread wound tight over it and having a cover put on it to make our modern ball. The country club hills of today have slowly played a part in refining the design to what it is today. Nowadays, they are made as 2, 3 or 4 layered balls, and materials like surlyn or urethane are used to form the layers. The dimples on these balls make it possible for them to be hit farther than plain balls because of the lift and drag effect on them.

There are two different types of golf balls that can be purchased in a golf store. One is the recreational ball and the other is the advanced ball. These balls differ in how they are made. The recreational ball is less expensive, do not have as much spinning power and are made only using 2 layers. The advanced ball, however, is made with 3 layers, is more expensive and has a much better spin.

Here are my personal favourite top five golf courses in the world, these really are brilliant courses. Get those electric golf trolleys ready, here come the best of the best.

5. At number five- Shinecock Hills
A stunning course that has hosted four US opens so far. Really very challenging, easily going to struggle to get your usual handicap on this course. The course itself was first designed in 1891 with further amendments occuring in 1930, with no changes happening since it just goes to show a perfect course has no faults.

4. The oldest course ever? St Andrews
This is certainly the oldest course in the entire world with golf being played here from as early as the 12 century. Although known as the home of golf it is apparently not very good for newcomers to the course. It is a course that you have to get to know and love before you actually enjoy playing here.

3. Cypress point golf club
Most people are very unlikely to ever get to play here as it only has 250 members but the last four holes of the course have been called the best four of all time. Having never played this course I have to say I have no idea how good or bad it is but it certainly had to come into the top five.

2. Royal County Down is number two
This course is the best course in the UK hands down and was designed wback in 1889 with major works done to it in 1908. Some of the best golf I have ever played has been on this course which is why it is at the number two slot, of course it is a stunning course which helps.

1.Pine Valley is at number one
This course really had to take the number one spot purely down to the fact it is the best looking course I have ever seen. This course has great caddies and in itself is brilliant with the only problem being the 10ft deep bunker with no sand in it! If you get the golf ball into the bunker then there is no way you are going to get out of it.

There you have it my personal favourite top five course in the world. No need to charge up those golf batteries when you have the caddies at these places to drag your clubs around for you.

The new Mizuno MX-700 driver has certainly taken a stand atop the new driver list this year.  The new Mizuno 460cc driver is a wide body geometry shaped driver that pushes the CG toward the back… way back.  And CG is not he only thing going for this driver.  The face incorporates a Ti-9 titanium alloy that is designed with a grain structure that really allows this driver to improve ball speed especially on off center hits.

Mizuno offers “Power Hull” body construction utilizes internal reinforcements for powerful sound and feel.  The MX-700 will replace the beloved MX-560.  Some may be disappointed of the replacement, most will enjoy the upgrade.

This driver exudes confidence at address, I just plain like the looks of this driver.  Mizuno has traditionally catered to the more accomplished player.  Until now that is – in the case of the Mizuno MX-700, they broke the mold by offering the recreational player a nice higher launch, low spin driver that will be sure to fare well among the masses looking for such traits.

Really the only negative was the head fitting not being interchangeable.  Therefore, since there is an extensive custom shaft selection including Fujikura, Grafalloy and Mitsubishi, it makes it difficult to test.

Overall Rating-

No doubt, the Mizuno MX-700 deserves your attention this year.  It earned a Silver rating from Golf Digest for drivers under $350.  “A “Hot Metal” face and geometric body design combine to create Mizuno’s most powerful and most forgiving driver ever,” Straight from Mizuno.  Yep, put this one on your short list this spring to take a good long look at.

You may ask why you would ever want to build your own golf clubs.Well, the big reason is that when you buy clubs off the shelf, you are stuck with the sizes and fits that are in stock – limited only.There may be one size for men, another for the women and another for the children who need junior golf clubs. For someone with a 6′ 2″ height, buying off the rack can cause one’s golf game to suffer and cause annoying back aches because the clubs that was picked were too short. By learning to make your own golf clubs you can help your body and save some cash at the same time.

There really isn’t much needed to make one’s own golf clubs.  You just need a head, shaft, grip and some materials to hold it all together.  Searching the internet will give you many options to buy your components to make clubs that match your game.

Grip tape – two sided tape is needed

Grip tape solvent – very cheap and you can recycle the excess

Epoxy – you will needs an epoxy with a drying time of 2-3 hours

Pipe cutter for cutting steel shafts, a plumbing cutter will work fine

For graphite shaft use a hack saw

Grip cutting knife – one with a hooked blade works nicely

Sandpaper for roughing up shaft tips to epoxy them

Shaft clamp – a thick piece of rubber in a vise works well

Making a golf club consists of measuring and cutting the shaft to length, abrading the tip to make sure the bond to the head is as good as possible. You then push the ferrule over the thin end of the shaft and glue the head to the shaft with epoxy. Waiting for the epoxy to dry is the worst part of the job… take the newly made golf club to the course and try it out. Once the epoxy has set, you wrap the butt end of the shaft with grip tape (double-sided sticky tape), wet it using one of a wide range of solvents, slide the grip over it and let dry. Now you clean your new golf club, polish the ferrule and end up with something better then you can buy at a store.

So get to your computer, surf the net and find great websites to get your components. In no time you will your own homemade golf club or clubs. So, go and have some fun.

Those who play golf know it’s addictive. Building your own clubs can result in a similar addiction, so be warned.

These are the top five golf gadgets that personally made me laugh and could improve your game, although more than likely not. A lot of these gadgets dont even need to be used on the course itself but can quite easily be used at home in front of the little impressed wife and kids. Some of them could even help improve the normal electric golf trolleys.

5. The tee that loads the ball for you
This really is a brilliant idea for when you are practicing driving at your local course as this can contain around 30 balls and at the push f your golf club the ball will be put onto one of the tees which is a brilliant idea for when there is wind and the golf ball never stays on the tee when you put it on.

4. A driver that helps your game, a lot
Although of course it is cheating it is brilliant for getting yourself out of a tough spot in the game. When your stuck in the rough and there is really no chance you are going to get far then the best thing to use is this fantastic gadget that cuts the rough away from the ball so you can quickly get out of any "rough" situation. Absolutely brilliant.

3. A golf club that keeps your drink in it
This handy club will pour any liquid you put into it straight into your cup at the push of a small button. This gadget is awsome for when you cant really afford all of the expensive drinks that they sell at the clubhouse.

2. The pool island golf chipping set
A great idea if you have your own pool as you dont need to leave the house to go and practice those important practice shots. The golf balls are made of the material velcro so instead of bouncing off into the pool hopefully they land on the island. Better than having your own pool is using the local public pool and making everyone go and get the golf balls for you!

1. The brilliant remote controlled ball
If your struggling in your short game why not use the remote control ball and have a laugh as everytime your ball goes into the hole at a push of a button. Although this is blatently cheating it is great for a fun round of golf or even for crazy golf as this would most certainly get you another free round.

Although your better off buying the plain golf gadgets like golf batteries these will help you if you want a bit of laugh whilst playing.
