Center of Gravity (CG) is the primary focus with the new Cobra S9-1 Driver.  The all titanium driver has been somewhat downsized for each loft.  In addition to the optimized CG, rather dramatic changes have been made from last year’s model such as slightly narrower face and less crown surface area.  The weight has been reduced by almost 6 grams to increase club-head speed – this is huge.  Making golf clubs as light as possible is a very big perk in my opinion.  Stripping unnecessary weight to increase club-head speed.  This is the name of the game to gain additional yardage.

Other notables for the Cobra S9-1 is the new Hotter 9 Points technology to further increase clubface efficiency. What is this?  It’s the design of the driver to maximize COR using a Dual Rhombas insert to promote higher ball speed and a more consistent ball flight across the entire club face.

Comes in three different models (excluding the S9-1 Pro):  S9-1 M for swing speeds of 87-108 and ball speeds of 125-155, S9-F for swing speeds of 97 or less and ball speeds of 140 or less and finally the S9-M (offset) for swing speeds of 97 or less and ball speeds of 140 or less.

The Cobra S9-1 is an absolutely great looking driver.  Cobra has always come out with stellar drivers and this one is no exception.  Very high MOI and balanced face makes this one of the straighter drivers on the market today.  Excellent custom shaft selection such as Graphite Design, YS-6+ and YS-7+, Aldila DVS, Aldila NV, Grafalloy Prolaunch, Proforce V2, Fujikura Speedax, Rombax, and the Mitsubishi Diaman to name a few.

The Cobra S9-1 is probably more geared for the average player.  Lacks lower loft selection (starting at 9.5) unless you go to the Cobra S9-1 Pro model – this is not a negative to the majority of players however.

The Cobra S9-1 will be a hit for players looking for greater distance and accuracy.  A high launch driver that’s straight and long, the general consensus is that it will be a hit for Cobra after making a Gold Rating in the Golf Digest Driver reviews for 2009?. This is definitely a driver putting on your short list this spring.

As we are in the middle of a full blown financial crunch people are beginning to feel awkward. Instead of people going out on the evenings and weekends they are looking to save money and stay in.

To a lot of people when you mention golf it comes as somewhat a very boring and tedious game. If you happen to mention it in a form of exercise, then you would probably hear a reply of what type of exercise can I get playing golf?

Well I will tell you a great story of how playing a game of golf actually helped me lose arounf 60 pounds. I was around 16 years old. I am not a very tall person but I did weigh an extremley heavy 19 stone, I was one of these people that would just sit in front of the TV and computer all week long and snack out. It became apparent to me that I was over weight when I walked up a small flight of stairs and could barely catch my breath.

Something had to be done before I turned into something that was going to ruin my body for the rest of my life. I first started to try to go to the gym, but it was just too much I was in no physical state to be visiting the gym. Everything I approached to do I just got out of breath. So one of my dear friends suggested that I go to the local golf club and start playing golf, the first thing that came to my mind was how the heck will that help?

But I gritted my teeth and took the plunge, I actually very much enjoyed my first game and it was very rewarding. I got a splash of sunshine and a breath of fresh air. But what was happening to my body was what shocked me I was using all of my muscles without even know. I regularly played 3 times a week and in 5 months I had lost all of my weight. I would definitely recommend golf to anyone.

The real problem is that the real sports only apply to the people that play them whereas the computer games like Wii Sports can apply to anyone at all which is having a huge impact on sport itself. So how close are the games to the real thing? The question is, do you burn the same amount when you are playing the sports on a games console? The most simple way to put it is . . . perhaps.  Obviously if you are buying say a golf game for the 360 or PS3 it is not going to do anything apart from save you money on one of those electric golf trolleys.

A big problem is that if you were to purchase a golf game on the wii the only part of the sport you are going to miss out on is the walking part. To be fair most of the pro. Game devlopers are always looking to improve the games they are making and this has become more of a competition than anything and the Wii is taking advantage of this by using its powerful motion sensing technlogy. When you are playing the games it actually feels like you are playing the real thing which is especially true for sports such as golf and tennis. The new attachment for the Nintendo Wii which is due out later thi year means motion sensing technology is going to advance even further. With this new technology it is going to give the game devlopers an even bigger chance to make the games closer to reality than before. Is this really making any difference at all? Well it sure is for the people who can’t afford to go out and pay fees at their local golf course. No need to even be dressed in your best golf gear to play golf on any of the consoles, a great idea.

They need to concentrate on making the games you cant go out and play at a course better so people will have more incentive to go out and play them, I love computer games but its time to leave the sports ones where they are. Some sports like golf involve huge talent and it would be a shame to see less and less of that develop over time because of computer games.

So next time your stuck between going out in the rain for a round of golf or plugging in the Wii for a bit of a game, stop and think, the real thing is always better so charge up those golf batteries and get playing!

The Callaway FT-iQ definitely deserves a good look this year.  The shape looks more like a torpedo than a driver but I must say, the reviews thus far have been very favorable.  And, to top off good early indications, the Golf Digest gave it a Gold rating.  So it looks like all engines are go for this next launch for Callaway.

The carbon fiber shell provides a an overall improvement to the head stability of the driver.  By utilizing a hyperbolic X-design in the cup face and rear-weighted along with a stretched square shape, the MOI on this club stretches the limit of the PGA standard.  The ball launch is considered higher than that of the FT-i, it’s predecessor.  In addition, the driver boasts a much lower spin rate than that of the FT-i.

A very high tech driver that provides a feeling of confidence at address.  The stealthy looking head shape provide a larger hitting area while keeping the sleek design.  The extreme MOI this driver possesses provides a the average golfer with the resources to launch the ball with ease.  New Mitsubishi Fubuki shaft nails this driver as state of the art.

Cons/Negatives-

The slightly closed club face does take the “workability” away from the scratch or low handicap golfer.

Overall/Rating-

The Callaway FT-iQ will most likely be a success, especially for the average golfer.  The club is designed with the recreational player in mind, an extremely high MOI coupled with a low spin, is ammunition for a straight, long ball off the tee.  An added bonus is Callaway’s decision to fit the FT-iQ with a Mitsubishi Fubuki, one of the hottest driver shafts on the market.  This driver is definitely a must-see, must-try, driver for 2009′!
